deleting downloaded installation files after installing

Guest

I made a folder just for my downloads of installations (.exe)such as updates for programs like, xdirect or new programs like "tweakui powertoy setup", "spybot" and fix-it or addon files like, "iconcache.reg, "reportclass name.vbs and some zip files. What I would like to know is,since I have installed, run and unzipped these, is it safe now to delete these files?

Hi

You can delete them, but you may need to re-install some of those programs
at a later date. I burn my downloaded files to CD.

Hi Jeanie,

If the .exe's are in place and working properly, you can delete the .zip
file extractions. You should from here have an entry either via Programs or
Desktop, depending on what the finishing info was for you to accept.

you can delete them...but I also keep them on a different
partition if I have to reinstall the program. From time to
time I delete some older ones that got updated or I'm sure
I don't like/want. I used to burn to CD also but after a
while most of them are pretty outdated that's why I prefer
them at the harddrive.

Hi Kelly

Program corruption - which is happening all too often ATM, with these
viruses, worms, spyware etc. running havoc. Downloaded files on a CD are
also useful after a reformat - if it is needed at any time - no need to go
off and re-download the whole lot again!! Haven't you ever had to
re-install a program that has become corrupted?
