deleting D drive

Has anyone else accidently (yeah, I'm an idiot) backed up their entire system
to the D drive? if so, how do I fix it so I have some memory in that drive?
I'm just now learning about partitions and what not. It seems that the
system shouldnt automatically back up everything and certainly not to that
drive. solutions?????

Usually the backup program will create a backup file or image.
Generally you can copy that to a CD or DVD, then, after making sure the
backup will work from the CD/DVD, delete the backup file on the HDD.
Without knowing which backup program you used, it's all guessing.
OR make a backup directly to CD/DVD then delete the backup on the HDD.

I did the same thing! Then I could not copy anything onto CD or DVD. My
"solution" was to order Recovery Disks from HP and do all of my back-ups
onto an external HD. Then, because I kept getting pop-ups warning me of Low
Disk Space, I unassigned the letter to the "D" Drive - it's there but the
pop-ups stopped and I now rely on the Recovery Disks from the manufacturer
and my external HD back-ups. Somewhere we (the dummies) should have been
told that the back-up for the HD was on Drive D and that it was not to be
used for back-ups - I totally misunderstood that Recovery Drive was the one
to be used for the Recovery Disks and not back-ups for recovery. Hope this
