Deleting contacts from Outlook 2003

I just want to know why when I delete a contact from my Contacts in Outlook
2003, why that same contact is not automatically deleted from any
distribution list the contact may be on? i.e. John Smith no longer works
the ABC company and I need to delete him from the Contact list - he is also
on a ABC Company distribution list, and I also have to go into the
distribution list and delete John Smith.

When I create the Distribution List, I "Select Members" from "Contacts" and
I just presume they are the Outlook 2003 Contacts. My options in "Select
Members" are "Outlook Address Book" (which is empty) and "Contacts" which
appears to have my contacts in them.

Any assistance is most appreciated!

Probably because a dist list can contain addresses from contacts &
non-contacts so when you insert a contact's address it's just added to the
list and not linked to its parent contact

Thanks for the quick reply. So my next question is: when I insert a
contact into the Distribution list, how do I link it to its parent contact?

Also, I have been doing some reading of the various posts, and I have a
feeling that using my Categories is the way to go to send out batch emails
instead of using Distributions Lists - I have been using categories for quite
a while now and really like the way I can sort through contacts - would this
be the better way to send emails as opposed to using distrubtion lists?
