no for some reason i can't get it to recognize anything beyond 32G
(ntfs OR fat32) barrier.

Just a general recap as most of this has already been covered in other
responses:

You're stuck at 32GB. That's the same number that XP is limited to when
formatting a drive as FAT32. However if the 32GB barrier was due to FAT32
limits in XP, Disk Management should still be showing the full size of the
drive with the 32GB portion "sliced" off of the larger whole. So you need
to look for a different explanation of why this number is so fixed for this
huge hard drive.

-Check the jumpers on the drive. Some have a position that forces the drive
to be seen as a certain size.

-Check to see what BIOS is recognizing the drive as. Confirm largest size
drive that BIOS can work with. Then, if necessary, correct the drive info
in BIOS. Forcing an auto-detect or manually entering the drive
specifications in the BIOS menu screens.

-Oddball settings: My brother's Dell has a goofy BIOS setting - "Silent
Audit." This has to be disabled to change any info about installed drives.
It can be enabled again after the new drive is added.

-BIOS setting or antivirus protection that protects the boot record. A long
shot but you've tried many things so may be worth checking.

-When partitioning and formatting, be sure to select LBA (wording may vary
and you might see large drive or extended addressing or something similar)
option. Not applicable at the moment but need SP1 or higher (and a capable
BIOS) to get past the 137GB limit.

-I don't remember any mention if this is an internal or external drive. If
external, check the specs for the drive enclosure. What is the maximum size
that it is capable of handling?

-If drive overlay was once used with this drive, you'll need to use the
overlay software to remove the overlay info.

I can't think of anything else right now... Hope you get this sorted.
