Deleting a File

I have a file that I downloaded on my desktop. I am trying to delete the
file and it says "Cannot...The directory is corrupt and unreadable". how can
I delete this file? I am very computer illiterate so be specific as
possible!!!

Now would probably be a really good time to back up your data.

Then, run chkdsk. The system may want to schedule this to run at startup.
Let it do so.

But, as your system apparently already has some file system damage, do a
backup of your data NOW before you take any further action.

what if you type that chkdsk /f <drive> in and it flashes up then goes away
 
Got to Start/Run and type "cmd" then press enter
type "chkdsk <drive> /f" in the command prompt window then press enter
