deleting a background graphic but not the page/slide number

I want to delete a graphic that I have on my master slide but do not want to delete the page number. When I click the "omit background graphics from master" it deletes the page number as well. Is there any I can delete the graphic on my master slide without deleting the page/slide number? Thanks in advance.

Your technique to do this depends on your version of Powerpoint.

If you have PowerPoint 2002 or 2003 Then simply use the multiple template
feature to remove the picture from this slides template.

If you have a previous version, then you will have to fake it by:
1) Placing a masking black rectangle over the whole slide background
2) Putting a text box to imitate the slide number
Optionally 3) update the slide number text with a Macro

Hello,

PowerPoint doesn't provide the functionality that you are looking for.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that it's important that
PowerPoint provide more granular control over what Master items get omitted
from the slide when you use this feature, don't forget to send your
feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).
