deleteing a word

I am having a problem deleting words in Word. When a word or words, is
selected and hit delete, there is a message at the bottom of the screen
'Delete (no) (yes)?

I have looked in the Word help file and searched the internet. No luck.
Can you help me please.
 
Select Tools > options > General tab and deselect "Help for WordPerfect
users" and "Navigation keys for WordPerfect users". Click OK.
