Deleted Text and then Saved

I deleted a large amount of text from an MS Word 2003 document and then
saved, and now I need the text back. I have not yet closed the document, but
the "Undo" menu item is inactive (due to the save, no doubt).

This text was previously saved in the document.

Is it still there? Is there some way to retrieve it?

If you can't Undo, then it's not there.

Just for the record, a normal Save operation does not destroy the Undo list
if the document remains open - if it has gone, it is because of something
else in your environment, an AddIn perhaps.
