Deleted Required Windows Components

Hi,

Like a complete moron, I have removed a number of required Windows
components (fundementally mis-interpreted the dialog box, and had the
ticks the wrong way around, assuming that you ticked the one you
wanted deleting, ho-hum.) while trying to remove ’Outlook Express’.
Realising my mistake I tried to re-install the components, but the
disk is required, and I do not have it (PC is second hand :-( ).
I have not yet re-booted the machine, so everything still works, so
what I wanted to know is is there a temporary ini file or something
that I can delete, that will return it? I do not have system restore
on.

Failing that, can I use an XP Home disk to recover the items (the OS
is XP Pro)? As I have these for some of the other machines.

Please accept my humble thanks for any advice given.

not having some kind of recovery disk, restore points, backups or startup
disks, places you in constant danger of not being able to return to
functionality, if and when the o.s. needs a little help or crashes.........
Possibly restoring the registry will help, since there is likely a backup up
stored in the system directory. But you would have to get at the command
prompt. Not sure is your if winxp home recovery console can take you there
if winxp pro is installed. I don't think it would hurt to try.... Maybe a
BartPE disk made one of those other computers can help get you into the wnxp
pro prompt as suggested here: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/peboot.htm

Its a good thing your patient - this is one idea of others that will pop up
through out the day....
