Deleted Items folder immediately

My deleted items folder in Outlook 2002 is automatically deleting message
immediately. If I delete a message, it shows up briefly in the deleted items
folder, then it goes away. I want to keep these deleted messages in the
folder, until I manually empty the folder. I have checked my rules and can
find no applicable rules, so I am stumped.

May find a solution by checking auto archive settings (and again maybe
not): Right click deleted item folder>properties>auto archive

Al,

Thank you for your suggestion. I found the problem while checking on your
solution. It was very simple. In the Deleted Items folder then View, we had
checked Unread Messages. Which means that as soon as you click on the
messages and delete, they go into the Deleted Items but you can't see them as
they have been read. So it only looks like they are gone. I clicked on
Messages and there they were. Doh!
