Deleted folder...system restore?

J

Janice

Hi,

I was just wondering if its possible to recover files that were deleted
in the recycle bin by doing a system restore to a point before these
files were deleted?

Any ideas?

Mostly, documents, word, excel, pdf....

The only problem is that I discovered the folder was missing last nite
and its probably been at least 3 weeks since its been deleted....(the
computer has been in use almost everyday)

pls don't tell me its gone...

Janice,

As the replies to your post earlier this morning indicated, you are probably
out of luck. With three weeks gone by now, the chances that your data can
be recovered are incredibly remote. As I am sure you have now realized,
backups are very important. Give your boyfriend a sound thrashing and make
him sleep on the sofa for a couple of weeks. Sorry.

See my answer to your first post. Next time don't make a new post about the
same subject only a little while apart. It fragments the thread and makes
it difficult for people to help you.

In general, no a RP won't bring back your folder. It is a /system/
backup tool, not a file management tool. Simply restore your folder
from your last backup set. You do back up to someplace, right?

But, in some instances, a RP can bring back data, but of the kind
that the O/S needs, not your own. And, if there are any security
implications, RPs will not override current settings.

It's gone, or FUBAR'd, meaning the HD blocks have likely been
overwritten if you did much work in those 3 weeks. Again, the time
to think about backups is /not/ right after you notice data loss of
any sort. It needs to be a near-religious experience where you
backup to optical or external HD minimally at your tolerance for
data loss through a system malfunction, malware attack, or a plain
and simple blunder.
