deleted email does not go to deleted items folder

When I delete an email, it does not go to the deleted items folder, but only
has a strikethrough. How do I get it to go to the trash bin instead of only
having a strikethrough.

I assume that you're using IMAP. You'll need to select "Purge messages"
from one of the menus (I think it's the "Edit" menu) to delete the messages.
IMAP works differently than other account types because that's the way the
IMAP standard was designed...
