Try the following, (for Windows XP, but similar for most
windows versions):
NOTE: Keep the Windows Task Manager visible all the
time!!!
Write down the location of the .dll file you want to
delete AND the location of the new .dll file. Make a
backup of the .dll file first!
1. Press ctrl-alt-delete
2. Click on the processes tab
3. Scroll down the list until you see EXPLORER.exe
4. Press end process
5. Click ok on the warning box
6. Click File | New Task (Run)
7. Type in cmd.exe and press OK
8. Assuming you know how to use the command prompt,
navigate to the folder that the .dll file is in. (use the
cd command)
9. Type del whateverthefilenameis.dll
10. Then type copy "c:\directory of new
dll\filename.dll" "c:\directory of where you want to put
it"
Alternatively, you can probably just delete the .dll
file first, then go back into Windows (step 12) and copy
the new .dll file into the folder through Windows
Explorer.
11. After the new file has been copied over correctly
(use the dir command to check) type exit at the command
prompt.
12. Then back in the Windows Task Manager, click File |
New Task (Run) and type in C:Windows\explorer.exe
You should now have your start menu and all the other
goodies back. Close the Task Manager and you are done.
