Delete Uninstall Folders

A

Ancient_One

I have noticed after installing fixes or patches into XP
or NT their appears to be an uninstall folder created in
Windows.

If your happy with the way windows is performing after the
fix/patch has been on their for awhile, can these folders
be deleted.

I have noticed some of them take up a hell of a lot of
room. One taking up to 145MB of space. ie. SP1 for XP.

Thanking you in advance,

Eric.

Hi Eric,

The answer is "yes". You only need them in case you wish to uninstall an
update. If there are no issues associated with the update, then you can
safely delete the uninstall folder. Afterwards, go to Add & Remove in the
Control Panel, select that update for removal. You will get an error message
(as the uninstall information no longer exists) and an option to remove it
from the listings.

My rule of thumb is to wait 30 days after installing an update to allow time
for any issues to present themselves. Afterwards, I remove the uninstall
folders.
