Uninstall Folders in XP

O

oh well

Have just installed Windows XP Home SP2. There are about 50 + subfolders
under the Windows folder with names similar to:

$NtUninstallKB873339$

These folders are taking up about 250 megs of harddrive space. I have been
wondering if I could delete them. They seem to be uninstall items for the
updates which have been installed about 2 weeks and everything seems to be
working ok.

thx

If you're confident that you won't need to uninstall either the
service pack or any of the subsequent hotfixes, you can safely delete
those folders. You can then open the Control Panel's Add/Remove
Programs applet and select each of the pertinent removal choices, in
turn. You should get an error message stating that the removal files
are missing, and asking if you'd like to delete the menu option.

Tommy,

Yes. You're correct. If your system is running stable, then you can delete
those $NTUninstall... folders (or move them to another drive, or to a
removable media incase you need those files again). Note that the folder
"$hf_mig$" should not be deleted at any case.

I copied such things to a dvd and then deleted them. That insures that if I
mistakenly deleted something, I could always recover (so long as the dvd is
readable which is by no means a sure thing).
