Delete these $!!@&* files and folders.. !!

Michel S.

Hello,

After a system crash, I succeded to perform a backup from the recovery
partition.

After reinstalling the system, I restored the said backup. HP Recovery
Manager installed the files in C:\System Recovery Files\C with a lot
of subfilders containing programs and users data.

After I successfully moved the User data to their respective locations,
I now want to get rid of the "C:\System Recovery Files" folder..

Despite running Explorer as an administrator, the system refuses to
delete over 900 files with a message "Access To Destination Folder
Denied - You need an authorisation to perform this action" and the
buttons "Retry, Ignore, Cancel".

Many of these files are .dll and .mui.

What should I do to successfully delete the "System Recovery Files"
folder ?

I'm running Vista Home - Premium Edition

Thanks

It is unclear why you want to delete the folder since it served you so well
once.

However if you do not want to change you mind it is not that difficult to do
what you want.

Right Click on the folder, Properties>>Security Tab>>Advanced>> you have to
delete inheritance by upchucking the checkbox.

You may also need to add yourself to the Administrators Group (if you have
Business or Ultimate, it seems it is not possible in lower variants) and
also and add yourselves to the Users for that folder.

Thanks for your reply. I was able to successfully delete most of these
unwanted files and folders.

There is only one file Vista doesn't allow me to delete because "file
is in use"; it's the "bootmgr" - not the one in the volume root, but
the one in C:\System Recovery Files\C . I can't figure which programm
or process is using it - unless Vista "thinks" it's the one in the root
and protects it ? Any idea ?

As for why I want to delete the folder it is because :

1) The folder tree is automatically recreated each time you restore the
files.

2) Even if I selected to backup only "Documents, Pictures, Music,
etc..", there is a *lot* of other stuff the HP Backup and Restore
manager include in the selection.. There were over 1.5 Gig of useless
stuff I wanted to get rid of.

Thanks again, and if you have a tip on how to delete "C:\System
Recovery Files\C\Bootmgr", I'll be glad to read it !
