my computer haw two windows c: and D: (multy boot)
how can delete multi boot setting. now i need only
one windows. and how can format c:drives ?
c: windows XP Home (not working)
d: windows XP pro' (working good)

Hi Jasmin,

Deleting the non-working system is as easy as booting the working one, then
using Windows Explorer to remove the system folders of the non-working one.
Then simply remove the reference to the unwanted system from boot.ini. Do
not format "C" unless you are positive that your boot files are not housed
there.

Start/run C:\boot.ini

If this opens boot.ini for editing, then simply remove the line referring to
the unwanted system from the [operating systems] section. It also means that
your boot files are housed there (on C:\) and you should NOT format it. If
it says file not found, then try:

Start/run D:\boot.ini

If this works, then your boot files are on D. Hope this helps.

Copy the following (hidden) files from C: to D:
boot.ini
ntdetect.com
ntldr

Then Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard Disk. Boot the XP CD and,
instead of Setup, take the immediate R for Repair. Assume any password
requested is blank, and TAB over. Give

diskpart
list partition
{and note the number n that corresponds to your D:)
select partition=n
active

That will set the D: partition as the one that boots up. You can then
edit the boot.ini there and remove the two lines that refer to the Home
copy. and are free to format C: (but I think I would first start by
deleting the boot.ini on it and rebooting to make quite sure all is
well).

To format - Control Panel - Admin Tools - Computer Management, select
Disk Management and look lower right for the graphic of the drive.
Highlight the C and r-click, take Format.

Note that you are stuck with the lettering - the partition where the Pro
Windows is will still be D: , and it is so extensively embedded in the
registry that it is impracticable to change.
