Check whether you have Track Changes turned on. Most easily, look at
the Review ribbon to see whether that button is highlighted. If so,
click it to turn it off. Further to the right, click the down arrow on
the Changes button and select "Accept all changes in document".

Another method is to right-click the status bar at the bottom of the
window and look at the "Track Changes" line -- if it says "On" at the
right end of the line, that's the problem. You can click the line to
put a check mark to the left so the Track Changes item is always
displayed in the status bar. Clicking that item (or pressing
Ctrl+Shift+E) turns the tracking on and off.

There are a few other possible causes, but track changes is the most
probable.
