Delete Hightlighted Text

In Word 97 and prior versions I could mark (highlight)
text and delete it with the delete key. In WINDOWS XP
Professional with OFFICE XP Professional the only way I
can delete highlighted text in WORD is by using Control-X
with the cursor in the highlighted block or to right
click it with the mouse and cut it. How can I restore
WORD so I can delete a marked area with the delete key.

Hi, Bill,

Tools > Options > General, turn off both options that mention WordPerfect.
