I have a situation where I have been advised to use the delete cookies
option in IE 6 (used under Windows XP Pro) in order to solve a certain
problem. I am concerned about doing so, however, because I have a
ba-zillion cookies. That is, when I go into cookies, settings, view files I
have 36, 000 listed there. I am concerned if I hit the "Delete cookies"
button it may cause other problems I am unaware of. What's the worst that
could happen? I don't really want all those cookies (I don't think) but am
afraid to delete them.

Could someone advise?

Woody,
Cookies are a means of tracking a visitor and profile
information...so that when you revisit the site it can
monitor who is coming...I personnaly dump cookies
often...they are relatively small files but I just don't
like the idea of it myself.

Thank you. That was helpful.

Actually the 36,000 figure I was referring to had to do with files as
opposed to cookies. I see no way to tell how many actual cookies I have. I
selected the delete cookies button but then selected the settings button and
the view files button. My 36,000 were still there. I then selected delete
files and the 36,000 went away. What did I just delete and how safe is it
to delete them from time to time?<grin>

The 36,000 files were probably your Temporary Internet Files. Deleting them
does no harm.
