Delete an archived file in Outlook 2000

I am using Outlook 2000 (maybe an upgrade would sufice) Is it possible to
delete files in my e-mail Archives. Some files are not needed anymore and I
would like to reduce the size of the Archive file. Outlook gives me an error
message when I try to delete or move an e-mail in the Archives. This is the
error message: The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the
problem persists, restart Outlook.

Dont know what to do from here...any advice would be greatly appreciated.
 
What is the size of the pst-file?
Use scanpst.exe to scan it for errors.
