delete a message from view

when I delete a message from the in box it does not go away. a line goes
thru it but it is left there to still be seen in a lighter gray color. It
can still be accessed and I have no "deleted items" folder for these things
to go to when I do delete them. This condition only exists on my AOL use of
outlook. I also have road runner and Road Runner does not have this problem.
Items go to a deleted item box where they can be permanently deleted.
 
Sounds like an IMAP account, if so you need to use the Edit menu and Purge
Deleted Items (this is how IMAP works).
