i have 2000 andxp partisioned. how do i safely get rid of
2000 without effecting xp?

1. Remove Windows 2000 from your BOOT.INI settings.
2. Restart the PC. Windows XP should now start automatically.
3. If so, manually delete the Windows 2000 files from your HDD.
