Hello all - I am running XP sp2, with 2 HDs - the secondary drive is a 40g
Maxtor 6L040J2 4 1/2 years old.
this drive has 3 partitions D, E, and F - with E being the only NTFS
partition, set up for volume shadow copy. both D and F are FAT32.
I run NTBACKUP nightly, with the files being stored on the D partition of
the Maxtor.
lately Windows has been showing a popup window when I come down in the
morning, indicating the backup had a delayed write failure.
both the backup log and the event viewer show the job completed
successfully. event viewer does also show the so-called write failure.
I did a click and drag to the D partition, and got the same popup window and
event notices. - very small 10k file. the data is all copied correctly.
doing the same to the F partition shows NO errors... hmmm?
next I disabled the delayed write for the Maxtor.
the problem still occurs in the same way.
so it appears that the message is FALSE, and my question is, how can I get
XP to quit reporting this apparently phony message?
thanks for any help,
Vern
