delayed write failed

I have googled and read every possible thread regarding the "Delayed Write
Failed" issue. Windows issues a couple of answers that do not work for
anyone. There is the registry edit which I am now brave enough to try.
Unfortuanately I cannot type the lowercase "x" in the registry. It won't
allow me to. Is it some safety setting?

It is not really obvious what you are doing (I don't know which
Registry edit you are trying), but I AM GUESSING that you are trying to
make a change to the value of something, where the new value you want
to assign is provided to you in hexadecimal notation, hence the 'x'.
The following assumes that my guess is correct.

Depending on the type of entry, when you right-click on one and select
Modify, you have the option of providing the input in character format
or hex (I don't really remember and I can't verify this now, but I
think it says something like "change binary data"). If you choose this
option, the only characters you can enter are valid hexadecimal
characters. The 'x' that you see is telling you that the data is in
hexadecimal; it is not intended to be included in the text you enter.
