Delayed Mouse Pointer Movement

J

John McGanty

When I move the pointer, either via the touchpad or the
mouse, I generally experience a quick pauses before the
mouse moves. The pointer eventually moves to the place
corresponding to the movement of the mouse, but typically
after a quick delay of perhaps a quarter second. It's an
XP machine with plenty of RAM, and only one or two
applications running. It happens most but not all of the
time. And it doesn't matter what app. I'm using. It
behaves as if another app. repeatedly was momentarily
using all of the system resources, but I'm not aware what
app. that might be, unless something is running in the
background I'm not aware of. If anyone has thoughts on
this, I'd certainly be appreciative. Thanks!

Hi, John.

The first guess would be drivers for the mouse or the touchpad. Have you
been to the makers' websites to check with their tech support for the latest
drivers - or FAQs?

We might have a better chance of diagnosing the problem if you tell us the
make and model of your touchpad and mouse, or of your computer if those came
as part of the package. Is this a laptop computer?

Do you use voice input? Could your microphone be turned on and picking up
random sounds that interfere with the mouse?
