Delay when starting internet explorer (ie6)

Hello,

I recently installed Windows XP SP2. Before the
installation, when I clicked on the Internet Explorer
icon, my homepage would load instantly. Now, there's a
five-second delay when opening the first page. I would
very much like to get rid of this delay or at least
understand why XPSP2 is taking the extra time.

I've searched for an answer all over the place and haven't
found anything. Thank you in advance for sharing your
knowledge.

Hi Gregg,

If your HOSTS file is huge, and the DNS Client service is ON, this problem
is seen. Try stopping the DNS Client service and set it to disabled. See if
that helps.

Thank you for your reply, Ramesh.

I attempted your solution but it was not successful in
remedying my "problem".

My HOSTS file only contains an entry for localhost.

The DNS Client service was running. When stopped and
disabled, the trouble persisted.

Would anyone have further thoughts on this issue?
