Delay in updating data

I am running Widoows XP Professional and had no problems before updating to
Service Pack 2. I now have a delay of about 30 seconds when updating any data
files on my PC or transferring data updates to my server. If I update data
within a minute or so after the first 30 sec delay, both data updates on my
PC and server updates are immediately done. If I wait 10 minutes, I am again
back to the 30 seconds delay.

I have no idea what is causing the delay.

You are probably losing DNS. You need a better NIC card driver. I would
remove and re-find in device manager to see if that helps. Maybe try the
Update Driver button on the driver tab of the NIC Properties in dev mgr.

see if flushing DNS after a slow connection brings it back
DNS fails: restart windows, after you go to start/run, and type CMD, then at
that prompt type: IPCONFIG /flushDNS and then : IPCONFIG /registerDNS
