Delay in games

I wonder if it has something with my hard-drive to do? Sometime in some games
it comes up a graphical delay for about 0,5-1 sec the picture freezes before
it goes on again. I don't know if it is the hard-drive, motherboard or
something else. I don't thing I have a bad graphic-card as this also happens
on older games.
The thing that makes me think it has something with the hard-disk to do is
because every time it freezes the hard-disk light lightens up to show it's
reading.
Will it help if a do a partition on my hard-drive?

Intel Pentium 4A, 2400 MHz (18 x 133)
512 MB (PC2700 DDR SDRAM)
WDC WD1200JB-75CRA0 (111 GB, IDE)
NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8X (128 MB)

- Increase your RAM to 1GB...
- Download and install the latest video card driver from the video card
manufacturer...
- Download and install the latest chipset driver from your motherboard
manufacturer...
- Uninstall the Intel Application Accelerator if you have it installed...
