Delay in accessing home network

I have a home network where my notebook running XP is
trying to access a PC running 98. The first time I try
to access a file from the PC after connecting I encounter
a delay of about 1 minute or more. Eventually I usually
get a NT on-access scanner error and from then on the
connection works fine. Any ideas?
 
I have the same problem. And at the same time Windows98 computers explore the same networ immidiatly.
