Delay between Send and Outbox

I am running Outlook 2003 SP2 latest updates. After composing a letter and
clicking on SEND it takes literally 4-5 seconds for the letter to go to the
Outbox (independent of the size of the letter). During that time my screen
freezes. I have compacted the file. Other accounts work fine. My file is
73,425 KB. Is that relatively large and would that account for the delay?
Should I make a new account and save what I need using export and import
functions?

Thanks,
Fred Jacobowitz

That's not that big. What kind of machine are you running this on? How
much RAM? How much free diskspace? What anti-virus software are you using?

Pentium III Processor 500 MHz,
640 MB of Ram,
Symantec AntiVirus Full Version 9.0.3.1
I have disabled Internet Email Autoprotect to no avail. Available memory
when running Outlook alone approx 300000 KB.

Well, that's not a super powerful machine but has Outlook always been this
slow? Do you have any attachments on these messages? Are they in HTML
format or Plain Text or ?

I found the culprit. I had a WinZip add-on. When I removed it the delay
disappeared.
