Defragmenting pauses for volume shadow copy

I can't seem to defragment my C drive. I can bring up the defragmenter,
analyze the drive, and defragmenter starts--then stops and I get the message,
"paused for volume shadow copy." I run XP professional (media center). I
am administrator, have stopped any backups. Can anyone help?

Disable the Volume Shadow Copy service using services.msc.

If you really need the Volume Shadow Copy service running for backup,
disable it long enough to run defrag and then set it back to Automatic or
Manual, whatever it was set at.

Start | Run | Type: services.msc | click OK |
Hit your V key | If that didn't get you Volume Shadow Copy, scroll to it and
double click it | Set the Startup type to Disabled | Click Apply | Click the
Stop button | When the service stops, click OK | Close Services

When done defragging...
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | click OK |
Double click Volume Shadow Copy | Set the startup type to what it was set at
before | Click Apply | Click the Start button | When the service starts,
click OK | Close Services

If you have no need for the service to be running, leave it Disabled.
