Microsoft disk defragmenter seems too slow. It is taking 6 seconds to move
a single file. It didnt used to be like this. Is my copy busted, or
something not set right? I tried rebooting already, and this is not a bad
machine (athlon 2800, 1GB). I have also done a full chkdsk (or whatever
they call it now) and afaik it found no errors. Also, the disk is just 2/3
full if that makes a difference.

Which file? How big? How fragmented? How long did it take to defragment this
file from the same degree of fragmentation in the past?

Your computer today different than yesterday in porformance and Disk space
and also the AV and it's control on runing Applications.
All the Updates you have daily can make things slow.

It seemed like every file. I was watching it for about a minute and
measured (1 mississippi, 2..) and every file was about 6 seconds. Of
course, I did not write the filenames down nor do I know how long each
particular one took in the past. Was the question facetious? I remember
when I first started using defragmenters it would move so fast I could not
read the filenames.
