BlankJust did a defrag of my system and saw something strange that I never saw before. I have a very large block of red... I guess those are fragmented files. I did another defrag and the red block is still there.

Previously, when I performed this task, there were a few scattered red lines...But..this time, it's on solid block.

Is this ok? Or... Is something wrong with the system and is there something I should do.

Running XP...Service pack 1.. Want to make sure my system is running ok before I download Service Pack 2, so doing all the preliminary stuff.

Thanks for you help.

BlankIn View Report is any file listed as a "Most fragmented file"?

Some files are not capable of being fragmented e.g. the MFT file ( Master File Table ), which may show as 2 or 3 fragments.

How much free space is there in the drive / partition and how large is the drive / partition? If your free space is less than 15 / 20 % you can encounter problems defragmenting all files?

You can run Disk CleanUp selecting System Restore on the More Options tabs and that will usually create extra free space. Also remove Temporary Internet Files and empty the Recycle Bin. Taking these measures may enable you to get a better result from running Disk Defragmenter.

Hope this helps.

I did all you suggested.. I have plenty of space on my hard drive... at
least 90%, so that's not a problem. The one concern I have is that it is a
solid block of red, instead of red lines...

Were any files named as fragmented?

Have you tried running chkdsk? Right click on the drive in Windows
Explorer and select Properties, Tools, Error Checking, Check Now.

I have some important work to do on the pc today. First thing tomorrow,
I'll run the chkdsk and look to see which files were fragmented...

Thanks for you help. Will certainly get back with the information...

Downloaded Diskeeper and found that the files that were fragmented from
mostly from Microsoft's Antispyware... Diskeeper did a great job cleaning
up everything.
