Defragging the drive

It's been a *long* time since we defragged any of our server drives. Two
servers are DC's running W2K Server. Both are running DNS and are GC's.

Any steps I should take before defragging the drives? I plan to re-boot each
server after the defrag and before defragging another.

I would perform a chkdsk Drive: /F on each before the defrag.

Did you know that a severely fragmented server disk can render the
system inop? Not a good plan to 'occasionally' defrag.

You don't need to reboot after a defrag.
You may want to do a chkdsk /f on the volume before defrag
which will require a reboot.
Backup your data before doing anything.

Steve : Why does my Windows 98 System take a long time to defrag.? Last time
it took 12 hours plus. I had done it the week before and it took 1 1/2 hours.
