Hi
Anyone know the benefits of the XP defragmenter program.
Seems to me that it doesn't do a full job. The old defragmenter in Win98/ME
moved commonly used programs to the font of the disk and then completely
moved all movable data behind it without fragmentation, leaving only the
swap file and other files currently in use where they currently were. this
process was easily visable by the software.
In XP I can see a defragmentation in progress but have no Idea why certain
so called movable portions are not moved and will still leave the drive in a
non contiguous state albeit with less fragmented files. It also tends to
leave a large used segment near to the end of the drive.
Anyone know what it is trying to achieve, and why not a full optimisation at
the start of the drive?.
Regards
