Defrag does not work - chkdsk does not work

I tried to defrag my c-drive but I got order to run "chkdsc /f" for the
disc. I did that quite a many times but nothing happened during booting.
Then suddenly chkdsk started to work while booting without asked to
do that. Now I have three problems:
1. chkdsc cannot do its job because it can't get the c-drive at its disposal
(something locks the c-drive?)
2. chkdisk keeps doing the same useless check on every single boot.
3. defrag still does not work

Any ideas?

Zone Alarm V5 installed? If so, that is what is preventing CHKDSK from
running.
