Defragmenting

I cannot defragment. When I try to do so I get the
message that Disc defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk
is scheduled to run on the volume:(c:). Please run
chkdsc /f. The computer does not accept this. I have
tried to schedule a scandisc manually but this does not
work either. Can anyone help

Go to run,type:cmd In cmd type:CHKDSK C: /F Agree to restart,
then type:EXIT Restart computer,you can run defrag from cmd also,
type:Defrag C:

Many thanks for your help Andrew. I tried as you
suggested but all I get is the message:The type of file
is NTFS,cannot lock the currentdrive
