DEFRAG, DISK CLEANUP, ETC.

I am trying to set up my computer so that at night, I will get all my cleanup
programs to work. I want the following programs to work while I'm asleep:
-Disk Defragment
-Disk Cleanup
-Ad Aware Search and Destroy
-System Restore (To set a restore point once a week)

I asked earilier today how to get the defrag working. I thought I had to run
"Defrag C:/ -f" But the guy said that doesnt defrag the hard drive. I think
it does becasue I have a book telling me it does. And if the person that told
me this is reading this post, no offence man but I think your wrong about it
not working, so please don't freak out at me for getting re assurance.
I went to the kellys korner website and got the regedit fix so that I dont
have to put a password in. The only things I need are to know how to get the
Ad Aware to do a search, and the Disk Cleanup to work while I'm asleep. Both
of them require somebody to push ok, or something like that before they wil
run. I would like to bypass that and get it to run automatically. PLEASE,
PLEASE, PLEASE! somebody give me some help!

Here's some reading to get you started. I don't know why you
insist that the Command Prompt you are using works. What I
gave you before came from a Microsoft 1469 page XP/SP2
manual.

Please see these two links:

and:

Care to post the link to the specific Website? I'm always
willing to learn.

OK. It's hard to tell if it is working or not because you do
not see the graph that you do if you use the standard way.
Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools.

<quote>
a.. The command does not provide a graphical analysis of a
volume's fragmentation status, but it does provide a
summary.
a.. The command does not provide a status indicator.
<\quote>

Also, Defrag C:/ -f would show you an analysis of F Drive,
not start a Defrag.

Just to add, I did Defrag c: as the article you gave
suggested, and although I had no way of knowing if it worked
since there was no graph, it must have since after, I set up
to Defrag via System Tools and it was completed in seconds.
Since it's been more than a week, it should have taken at
least a few minutes.

No, it would not show you an analysis of an f drive. It forces the computer
to defrag the disk in any circumstance!

According to that site:

To Defragment a volume, specify the drive letter. For
example, to Defragment the C volume, type:
Defrag c:That said, Test it. Defrag via System Tools. If it
only takes seconds as I just posted, then you were
successful. Apparently there are conflicting opinions within
MS itself.-- Bruce HagenMS-MVP - (IE/OE) ~IB-CA~

There are two defrag tools in XP.

dfrg.msc is the pretty one that opens from
Start\All Programs\Accessories\System Tools.

defrag.exe the command line tool that runs in the command prompt.
defrag.exe is the one that you can schedule.

If you're gonna use defrag.exe instead of dfrg.msc, at least use
defrag_all2.vbs, it creates an Error Report in the root of the first fixed
disk. It can also be run as a Scheduled Task.
