How can a define an IP Address rather than have one assigned by DHCP from my
Linksys router? I would like to be able to do this so that I could always
know what IP my computer is inside the network. Any suggestions would be
appreciated. Thanks, Justin.

You can often simply assign a static IP address to your Ethernet
connection without disrupting the DHCP server, but it has to be on the
same subnet as the DHCP server is assigning.

For example, if you usually get an IP address of 192.168.1.x, then
choose a static IP address of 192.168.1.y where y is not the Linksys
address (usually 1), nor any other node. Read the manual. The linksys
may not assign the entire range, allowing you to choose a static address
from the range not assigned. (often 1-10 or 250-254).
