Defining a template that will work in both 2003 and 2007

Most people start with an existing presentation... I design a template in
2003 knowing that it will work in 2007. But when someone works on the
presentation in 2007 and saves it back to 2003; Template formating has been
lost.

Yes, one solution would be to reaply the original template, but not always
easy to explain to those trying to use the template. This will be a template
going out to a large corporate population some with 2003, some with 2007 many
varying degrees of ability with the program and I am assuming sharing of
presentations. I want to keep it clean and brand safe as it is used and
repurposed.

Any other solutions?

You may not realize it, but the 2003 template doesn't work well in 2007.
Color schemes especially are a mess. And going from 2007 to 2003, the
masters are a bit crazy, which I'm sure is one of the things you're
referring to.

Quite honestly, you really need to look at the template in both 2007 and
2003 and work through it if you want something that does well in both. Get
rid of extra slide layouts in 2007 so they don't create tons of masters in
2003, and get rid of the extra color schemes in 2003 so they don't give you
a ton of unworkable color schemes in 2007. And do create a color scheme that
at least kinda sorta ports back and forth. In my experience, that's very
very difficult, and you'd be better off creating 2007 templates for 2007
users and 2003 templates for 2003 users. However, that doesn't solve the
problem of when a presentation created in one is edited in the other.
