running vista ultimate - i have found defender turned off for no apparent
reason several times. Any solutions or comments would be appreciated

You'll get better results if you post in an appropriate Vista group,
rather
than in this .NET programming group.
To find the group you need, go here:

Then open your language in the TreeView on the left, scroll down to
"Windows", open and scroll down to "Vista" and select a
group from that category.
