Defender

Even though I do not have Defender scheduled for scans McAfee keep coming up
every time I start asking for permission regarding Defender scan.

I have had (and probably still have) Prorat.BB virus in the system and
wonder if this is related.

Many thanks for your ideas on this.

Hello Jorge,

Prorat.BB is a Trojan horse.

Trojan Horses or Backdoors open your PC from the inside to attackers. Once a
trojan is installed, someone can take full control of your computer. The term
Trojan describes softwa that appears desirable but actually contains
something harmful. In most cases Trojans contain Backdoors that are delivered
via email attachments. The term Trojan usually also includes Keyloggers that
invisibly log your keyboard inputs and Rootkits that hide themselves
perfectly and manipulate system internal actions.

Scan your computer now online with Ewido and/or a-squared

It cannot do any harm to give Ewido (now known as AVG Anti-Spyware) a try
http://www.ewido.net/en

Also a-squared Anti-Malware is specialized in detecting and removing this
kind of Malware.

A very effective tool for detecting rootkits:

Online scan

There is a known conflict, try uninstalling both MacAfee and Defender, then
re-installing Defender followed by McAfee.

Thank you very much

I downloaded it and ran it but it just gives me a huge list of what it
checked without telling me if there is anything wrong or suspicious.

Can you help?

I've tried HouseCall

It's this gmer that I don't understand. It just lists everything I have in
the syste. I thought it looked for problems.

It's too long to send, I think, but I would like to know how to use the
information.

Well, I found some instructions, but I'm still confused as to why Gmer list
thousands of entries in black when all you need is the funnyones in red: I
don't have any so I suppose I'm ok there.

Tell me what you think

Hi Jorge,

I think so, but thats about rootkit. But your problem was a Trojan and
not a rootkit. Still i think it is strange that i got a few and you got
1000? things! You may copy and past it and send it straight to me if you
like.
