Defender won't update

My windows defender won't update. I installed it last may and am still stuck
on the 1.14.1471.6 definition created on 5/30/2006. PC Specs :

XP Pro SP2
Joined to 2003 domain
ISA server for firewall

Internet works OK on all other levels. I've tried disabling the ISA
Firewall client, Windows Firewall, IE Settings to LOW, etc etc. I get a
message saying "No new definition files or updates for Windows Defender at
this time" Also performed steps in Q915105, still nothing. Don't see
anything on my PC or the ISA server that is getting blocked or has
errors/warnings. I've tried uninstalling / reinstalling, same issues. Any
help would be apprciated. Thanks.

Try this:

Go to a command prompt in the folder Windows Defender is installed in--by
default \program files\windows defender

type:

mpcmdrun -removedefinitions -all

and hit enter. Once that completes, type:

mpcmdrun -signatureupdate

and hit enter

Let's see if that takes care of it. The update process may take a bit of
time.

had the same thing happen to me. really had to scratch my head a bit to
figure it out. Just go into system properties (Rt click MY PC) and turn ON
Auto updates then try the UPDATE button. You can turn auto updates off after
you're done. OH it'll try to update your whole OS-- if you don't want those
updates- just UNcheck the boxes...

You can update manually by going to Windows Update and doing an express
scan. If Windows Defender definitions are not offered, however, you may be
missing some prerequisites--I would always recommend applying all critical
updates.
