Defender won't install

When I'm downloading the software, it loads 'til "89%" (4.86mb) then won't
load anymore. This occurs whether I run or save as an installation. I've
disabled antivirus software.

Hello Adam,

Whatever you do, (installing and updateting or unistalling) always as a
administrator.

First remove all temporarily junk with CCleaner
http://www.ccleaner.com

Note, uncheck Yahoos toolbar during install.

CCleaner quick tour:
http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp

Open Ccleaner and press "Windows" "Aplications" and "Run Cleaner" from the
menu choose 'Issues' and then press scan for issues, Repair any fºund.

We've had one post from a user with this symptom who was downloading over a
link involving a wireless connection to a router which was connected to a
'dsl or cable modem. He found that connecting directly to the modem enabled
him to complete the download.

I don't have a clear picture of what technical issue could cause that set of
circumstances--possibly MTU, but it still seems strange--but that was the
report.

I had the same problem here (the 89% download one) as well multiple other
problems many users are having. I have made several posts to these Defender
installation forums inclluding the fix that worked for me as follows
contained in my post to Steve Dodson from Microsoft:

Problem Solved. Here is what I had to do in addition to the steps Steve
Dodson and Sarah told me to do to uninstall then reinstall Defender:

1) Run CCleaner to clean the registry, etc and turn off active Trend Micro
virus scanning (I was doing this before but this step alone did not provide
the fix).

2) Unintall my Yahoo browser and everything else related to yahoo. I got
this idea when I saw in another post that Yahoo can be a problem I initially
did not think this fix would apply to me since I was signing onto Internet
Explorer with microsoft.com as my homepage when all the problems were going
on.

I hope this might help you.
