Defender Hangs while installing

After choosing my options and I click on Install the instlling hangs. I even
left it over night to see if it recovered but nothing just stays there.

I am using Windows XP Media Center SP2 on a Sony Vaio with a 3.20 Ghz
pentium.
 
Try disabling real-time protection by your antivirus application, just for
long enough to complete the install.
