Pauly: The check mark on the Defender icon (in the Task Tray) turns yellow.
I click the icon and a pop-up message warns me that Defender is closed and
turned off, and that my computer is at risk. The message contains a linked
statement, "open and turn on Defender." When I click on the link, Defender
is opened and turned on. Yes, Live OneCare is installed.
The installed antivirus program is Windows Live OneCare and is up to date
and do a "Full System Scan" daily.
Hmm - something is amiss, but perhaps not what you think:
Windows Live OneCare, in current versions, supplants Windows Defender, and
disables it. OneCare contains the same protection ability, and this is
intentional. What I don't understand is that you are seeing this icon
change--but perhaps you are starting Defender manually?
See this KB article for authoritative information:
Pauly: Thanks Bill; this takes a load off my mind. The "KB" was right on
the money in discribing the issue.
