Defender and One Care

I tried to install Defender but I was told to unistall One Care first I am
using OneCare version 2.5.2900.03
I remember before last year OneCare had much more options to control and
monitor much more.
What happened to the other options in OneCare?
It use to monitor Axtive X, Start up files and any reg changes etc.

I haven't looked at current iterations of OneCare, but maybe Stephen Boots
will step in.

I am certain that OneCare retains all of the protection of Windows Defender
and adds more of its own.

It may however, not allow you some of the fine gradation of visibility that
you are used to.

If you go to Control Panel--is there an icon for Software Explorer? Does
that do what you are expecting?

No there is no link for a Software Explorer Program any place.
I recall there was before on my old PC you made me remember that now.

Software explorer found in Defender is absent from OneCare. However,
the protection of Defender is included in OneCare. I think that the
reasoning is that the Startup monitor/cleaner of OneCare takes the
place of the process explorer, but I agree that it doesn't.

I'd stick with OneCare. The protection is there, but the UI has been
simplified. There are probably some alternatives--perhaps stuff from
Sysinternals--that might give you the visibility you are looking for.
ActiveX is pretty well covered in Internet Explorer these days--and there
are a number of good startup location survey programs--Sysinternals has one,
and SilentRunners is another.

I thank you Stephen Boots MVP-MSN Client, Bill Sanderson for all you replies
I will use the OneCare service. Still I will miss the Old UI were I could
monitor and check things easier, it gave me more of a sense of Security with
the old UI. I will miss it very much.
Thank You, Tracy

No. OneCare will disable Defender when you install it as Windows Live
OneCare includes the protection of Defender and expands upon it.
