How can I set the default to windows mail when I want to sent files and
attachments by email my system seems to default to outlook only and not give
me an option to use windows mail.

If you want WM to be the default email program, then go to

Start - Default Programs - Set your default programs

Highlight (click on) Windows Mail, and
Click on "Set this program as default"
Or click on "Choose defaults for this program" and select which items you
want.
Click on "Save"
