Default Word processing program

When I open a document with the .doc extention it opens in 'Wordpad'. How do I make it open in 'Word'

Is Word installed on your computer?

If Word is installed on your computer, right click a .doc file and select
'open with\choose program'. Select Word as the program and check the box
'always use this program to open this kind of file.'
